Uzbekistan’s Afrosiyob High-Speed Train Marks 15 Years

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — 8 October marked 15 years since the launch of regular Afrosiyob high-speed electric train services in Uzbekistan.

The train’s first journey on the Tashkent–Samarkand–Tashkent route took place on 8 October 2011.

Manufactured by Spanish company Talgo, Afrosiyob became the first high-speed train in Central Asia and marked the beginning of high-speed rail development in Uzbekistan.

After the country acquired its first two Talgo 250 trainsets, additional electric trains were added to the Afrosiyob fleet.

Uzbekistan currently operates six trainsets equipped with modern technology and passenger safety systems.

The route network connects Tashkent with several major cities, including Samarkand, Bukhara, Karshi and Shakhrisabz.

The trains provide fast and comfortable connections between the capital and the country’s historic and tourist centres.

Over the past 15 years, Afrosiyob has become one of the symbols of Uzbekistan’s railway modernisation, reducing travel times between cities.
