Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Khurshid Mustafayev met with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on 9 October 2026 to discuss new cooperation projects.

The delegation was led by Katsura Miyazaki, JICA’s executive vice-president and director general for sustainable development.

The meeting was also attended by Masayoshi Takehara, deputy senior director of JICA’s Department for Central Asia, Eastern Europe and the Caucasus; Yoshito Urano, director of the Private Sector Development Group; Mamoru Sakai, head of JICA’s representative office in Uzbekistan; and other agency representatives.

The parties reviewed the current state of bilateral cooperation and priorities for its further development. Discussions focused on supporting Uzbekistan’s socio-economic reforms, expanding technical assistance and preparing prospective joint projects.

A separate topic was the One Village, One Product (OVOP) initiative, which aims to support local producers. Participants discussed opportunities to expand product processing and packaging, as well as promote goods under local brands.

The sides also exchanged views on transport infrastructure development, including road reconstruction, and the implementation of projects in the social sector and human capital development.

Following the meeting, participants agreed to continue work in the identified areas, expand consultations and steadily develop cooperation between Uzbekistan and JICA.
