Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Kongratbay Sharipov has been appointed rector of Tashkent State University of Economics. He previously served as Uzbekistan’s Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation.
E'zozkhon Karimova has been appointed First Deputy Head of the Republican Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment. Before her new appointment, she headed the Ministry of Preschool and School Education.
The appointments come amid structural changes in Uzbekistan’s education system.
Under a decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation have been reorganized into a single Ministry of Education and Science.
The reform provides for the creation of a unified system for managing education, upbringing and scientific activities, from preschool to higher education. Its stated objectives also include ensuring continuity between levels of education, improving the quality and efficiency of the education system, developing human capital and strengthening its accountability to society.
