Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Representatives of Japanese company Trust Engineering Partners discussed the possibility of launching a project in the silk industry with the leadership of Ferghana Region.

On 8 October, Ferghana Region Governor Khayrullo Bozorov received a delegation led by company representative Takefumi Mayuma, the Ferghana Region administration said.

The meeting focused on proposals from the Japanese side to launch silk production and further develop cooperation.

Representatives of Trust Engineering Partners expressed interest in starting operations in Uzbekistan, particularly in Ferghana Region. The Japanese side proposed implementing a project aimed at developing sericulture and reviving the country’s traditional silk industry.

During the talks, it was noted that the Ferghana Valley had been located at the crossroads of the Great Silk Road since ancient times, while traditions of sericulture and silk production had developed in the region.

A number of projects aimed at developing the industry and creating new production facilities are also currently being implemented in the region.

Khayrullo Bozorov said Ferghana’s accumulated experience and existing potential in sericulture could be of interest to Japanese investors. He expressed readiness to provide the necessary assistance in implementing the new project.

The sides also considered the possibility of organizing cooperation on the basis of a public-private partnership.

Following the meeting, the participants agreed to continue assessing the region’s potential, develop a roadmap and determine a phased approach to implementing the project.
