Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan will host the next meeting of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2027. The decision was made following the Council’s 36th meeting in Kazan.
The meeting was attended by the heads of prosecutorial authorities from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The discussions focused on current challenges and new approaches to recovering assets from abroad, as well as international legal cooperation.
One of the outcomes of the meeting was the signing of an Agreement on Cooperation among the Prosecutor General’s Offices of CIS member states in countering terrorism and extremism. The document provides mechanisms for cooperation among the countries in addressing these threats.
The participants also agreed on the concept of a treaty on cooperation among CIS states in the recovery of assets from abroad. The document is intended to serve as the basis for further drafting of the relevant international treaty.
The heads of the prosecutorial authorities also established an interagency expert network on asset recovery across the CIS.
Russian Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan was elected chairman of the Coordinating Council. He stressed the need for the countries to pool their efforts to develop legal and practical solutions to combat transnational crime and recover illegally obtained assets.
