Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — An Uzbek citizen born in 1981 who had been on an international wanted list for a long time on suspicion of human trafficking has been detained in Istanbul. The operation was carried out through cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Uzbekistan and Türkiye.

According to law enforcement authorities, the detainee, identified as N.E., was wanted under Part 3 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which provides for liability for human trafficking.

Investigators suspect that the woman lured young women with promises of well-paid jobs abroad and subsequently took them to Türkiye. According to case materials, the victims’ passports were confiscated there and they were subjected to exploitation.

The detention followed operational and investigative measures conducted in cooperation with Turkish law enforcement agencies. After her whereabouts were established, the suspect was detained in Istanbul.

In accordance with established procedures, N.E. was handed over to the competent authorities of Uzbekistan. Investigative and procedural actions against her are currently continuing.

Law enforcement authorities urge citizens to exercise caution when receiving offers of well-paid employment abroad and to carefully verify information about employers and employment conditions.
