Uzbekistan to Develop New Railway Tariff Methodology

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan Temir Yollari (Uzbekistan Railways) JSC on 20 August 2026 discussed final proposals for a new tariff methodology for the railway sector. The working meeting was attended by international consultants supported by the World Bank, as well as specialists from relevant ministries and agencies, Uzbekistan Railways said.

The meeting was held as part of the reform and transformation of Uzbekistan’s railway sector in accordance with Presidential Resolution No. PP-329 of 10 October 2023, “On measures to fundamentally reform the railway transport sector of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” and Order No. F-70 of 31 December 2024, “On accelerating transformation processes in the railway sector.”

The meeting reviewed proposals for the new tariff methodology prepared by local experts with the support of the World Bank.

Participants discussed the introduction of transparent mechanisms for setting tariffs for transport services, improving the efficiency of railway infrastructure use and creating conditions for attracting foreign investment.

The main objective of the new methodology is to increase the economic independence and competitiveness of the railway system.

Following the meeting, further steps were identified to refine the document, taking into account the proposals put forward by participants.

The expert group agreed to accelerate completion of the tariff methodology and prepare the document for approval in the near future.
