Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The 27th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia was held in Ferghana on 6 October. The sides discussed expanding trade, implementing joint projects, energy cooperation and scientific and technological ties.
The Uzbek delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khojayev, while Russia was represented by First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.
Opening the meeting, Jamshid Khojayev noted that the agenda of bilateral cooperation had expanded since the commission’s previous meeting. He said the intergovernmental commission plays an important role in the practical implementation of agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries.
Among the key tasks, he highlighted the timely implementation of agreed projects and the adoption of decisions on issues requiring joint action. Jamshid Khojayev also described the complementarity of the two economies as one of the foundations for developing the trade partnership.
In the first eight months of 2026, trade between Uzbekistan and Russia increased by 10%. The strategic goal set by the two countries’ leaders remains to raise bilateral trade to US$30 billion.
In 2026, the sides plan to complete 17 joint projects worth a total of US$350 million. The projects cover the chemical industry, agricultural processing and metalworking.
Energy cooperation was one of the key items on the agenda. In particular, the sides discussed the construction of a nuclear power plant in Jizzakh region, the training of national specialists, and the localisation of equipment and services production.
Participants also noted an increase in tourism exchanges. In 2025, almost 1 million Russian tourists visited Uzbekistan.
Following the meeting, the sides signed the Protocol of the 27th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development of Russia and Uzbekistan for 2026–2040.
The sides reaffirmed their intention to continue implementing joint projects and strengthen the strategic partnership. In 2027, Uzbekistan and Russia will mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
