Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan plans to introduce mandatory digital labelling for vegetable oil from 1 July 2027. A draft Cabinet of Ministers resolution prepared by the Tax Committee has been published for public discussion, which will run until 24 October.

According to the draft, labelling is intended to curb the illegal import, production and sale of vegetable oil, as well as enable digital tracking of products at every stage of circulation.

The proposal calls for the use of barcode stickers applied to the inner or outer consumer packaging.

Manufacturers, importers, and companies engaged in the wholesale and retail trade of vegetable oil will be required to connect to the national product labelling and tracking system, Asl Belgisi.

CRPT Turon operates the system. It is intended to register the introduction of labelled goods into circulation, track their subsequent movement and record their withdrawal from circulation.

Selling vegetable oil subject to mandatory labelling without the appropriate code will be considered a violation of trade regulations and will entail liability under the law.

If the resolution is adopted, CRPT Turon and the Tax Committee will be required, by 1 January 2027, to provide manufacturers and importers that are registered in the system and have signed the necessary agreements with order management stations that can be used remotely.

The introduction of aggregation of labelling codes is also proposed from 1 January 2027. This process involves combining the codes of individual products or boxes into a single code for transport packaging.

Earlier, a similar requirement for water and non-alcoholic beverages was postponed by one year. Instead of 1 April 2026, it is now planned to take effect on 1 April 2027.

Tax authorities are proposed to be responsible for monitoring compliance with the new requirements.

Uzbekistan has been introducing its digital product labelling system in stages since 2020.

Initially, the system covered tobacco and alcohol products. It was later extended to medicines and household appliances, and subsequently to non-alcoholic beverages, including drinking water.
