Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A doctor at a family polyclinic in Gijduvan District, Bukhara Region, was detained while receiving US$500 in exchange for helping arrange a medical certificate required by a student to obtain academic leave.

According to the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, the doctor offered to arrange the document through acquaintances holding senior positions at the polyclinic and demanded payment for the service.

The doctor was caught in the act during an operation conducted by department officers in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies.

The money was seized as material evidence.

A criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident. Investigative proceedings are ongoing.
