Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Japan have discussed expanding investment cooperation and implementing joint projects across several sectors.

The talks took place in Tashkent on 10 October during a meeting between Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov and a delegation from the Japan-Uzbekistan Silk Road Fund (JUSRF), led by Yoshitsugu Minagawa.

Representatives of Sakura Global Holding, Sakura Seiki, JA Hokkaido Central Union and other Japanese organisations also attended the meeting.

The parties discussed prospects for developing trade and economic ties, attracting Japanese companies to investment initiatives and launching joint projects in infrastructure, healthcare, industry, education and tourism.

Particular attention was given to the development of medical education and the establishment of a university clinic.

The participants also discussed possible Japanese business involvement in a special economic zone project in Samarkand, the localisation of production and the expansion of public-private partnership mechanisms.

Following the talks, the parties reaffirmed their intention to continue cooperation under the Memorandum of Understanding signed in July 2024.

Further priorities include strengthening direct business contacts and advancing joint initiatives.
