Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis, met with Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker of Qatar’s Shura Council, on the sidelines of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The sides discussed strengthening political dialogue between the two countries and expanding cooperation between their parliaments.
During the meeting, the participants emphasised the importance of enhancing the role of legislative bodies in implementing agreements reached by the leaders of Uzbekistan and Qatar.
To further develop inter-parliamentary ties, they proposed maintaining regular contacts between relevant committees and inter-parliamentary cooperation groups, as well as holding online meetings and reciprocal visits.
The sides also discussed the possibility of preparing a joint roadmap outlining the main areas of cooperation.
Particular attention was paid to gender equality and the empowerment of women. Al-Sulaiti praised the reforms underway in Uzbekistan and highlighted the importance of the Second Asian Women’s Forum.
The meeting also recognised Uzbekistan’s humanitarian initiatives, its assistance to the people of Gaza and the country’s efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
