Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — As part of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tanzania, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva met with Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Malaysia Johari bin Abdul.
During the meeting, the sides discussed further development of inter-parliamentary ties and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.
Johari bin Abdul noted that the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Malaysia in 2025 and the visit of the Malaysian Prime Minister to Uzbekistan had been important factors in bringing bilateral relations to a new level.
Particular attention was paid to intensifying the activities of inter-parliamentary cooperation groups and expanding mutual visits by parliamentary delegations.
The sides also exchanged views on prospects for expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and Malaysia.
They separately discussed developing partnerships in education, tourism, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
In particular, the sides considered opportunities to expand cooperation in pilgrimage tourism.
The participants also noted the potential of the Center of Islamic Civilization and the Imam Bukhari complex to promote scientific and academic ties and cooperation between scholars of the two countries.
The meeting also highlighted Malaysia’s support for Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization, as well as for Uzbekistan’s initiatives within the United Nations.
