Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Tender procedures for the construction of the Tashkent-Andijan toll road are planned to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2027, Jamshid Tursunov, chairman of the Road Committee under the Transport Ministry, said in an interview with O’zbekiston 24 television.
According to Tursunov, a meeting also issued instructions to move toward the practical implementation of the Tashkent-Samarkand toll road project.
Work is also planned to begin on projects for the Tashkent-Charvak and Namangan-Pungan toll roads, with the latter expected to connect the Namangan region with the pass.
Particular attention will be paid to construction quality and costs in implementing the new projects. The use of local resources, modern construction materials and new technologies is also planned to be expanded. Specialists from the Transport University and young scientists are expected to be involved in this work.
Tursunov noted that following the construction of the first Urgench-Khiva toll road, most users positively assessed the project. According to him, this led to a decision to consider the construction of alternative roads that would allow major cities in the country to be connected more quickly.
The head of the Road Committee also reported a significant increase in the number of vehicles in Uzbekistan. According to him, their number stood at around 500,000 in the first years of independence, while the current figure is approaching 6 million.
With the growth of the vehicle fleet, developing road infrastructure remains one of the sector’s key tasks.
Tursunov identified increasing construction volumes, expanding two-lane roads to four lanes and creating conditions for safe and unobstructed traffic among the priorities.
According to him, rising incomes and greater population mobility are also increasing the need to build new roads and expand transit transport corridors.
