Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Fisheries Development Center has rejected interpretations circulating on social media about new rules for recreational fishing, stressing that people can still catch up to 5 kg of fish free of charge in public-access waters.
Under current legislation, citizens may catch up to 5 kg of fish free of charge in public-access water bodies using permitted fishing equipment and methods. The existing procedure is not planned to be abolished, and the option to catch fish free of charge within the established limit will not be made subject to a fee.
At the same time, Presidential Decree No. 122 “On Additional Measures for the Development of the Fisheries Sector”, adopted on 2 July 2026, provides for the creation of a unified system for services in sports and recreational fishing and ecotourism.
Fisheries that provide facilities for sports and recreational fishing will be able to voluntarily publish information about their services on the unified platform. Users will be able to find information about the location of a water body, available facilities and services, the cost of one-day fishing, as well as the number of available places and their occupancy status.
Through the Fishermen ID system, anglers will be able to select a suitable location, review the conditions and prices and reserve an available place in advance. After paying for the selected service, users will receive an electronic receipt with a QR code. The code can be used on the specified date to access the organized fishing facilities.
The Fisheries Development Center stressed that the launch of the system does not cancel free fishing in public-access water bodies and does not introduce a fee for catching up to 5 kg of fish.
The agency said the main purpose of the new system is to provide citizens with convenient and transparent access to information about organized sports and recreational fishing and ecotourism services, including their locations, conditions, prices and availability.
