Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Construction work on the Tashkent–Andijan toll road will begin in 2027, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at a meeting on the socio-economic development of Andijan Region, support for entrepreneurship and increasing household incomes, according to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.
The head of state highlighted several major projects aimed at expanding the region’s transport and logistics potential. In particular, the launch of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway will increase cargo transportation volumes tenfold, reaching 15 million tonnes per year.
An assignment has been issued to begin construction by the end of this year on a 300-hectare logistics complex in Kurgantepa and Khanabad districts. The complex will serve the future railway line, and the project is estimated to cost US$600 million.
The meeting also highlighted an agreement between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan to construct a new Keskanyor border crossing. Its capacity will be twice that of the existing Dustlik checkpoint, the largest crossing on the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border.
Following the launch of the new checkpoint, cargo transportation volumes are expected to increase two to three times, while cargo processing times are expected to be reduced by an average of one week. An assignment has been issued to develop the checkpoint’s project and begin construction within three months.
In 2027, the design of a new 78-kilometer road connecting Andijan and Khanabad will also begin.
The president also recalled the launch of a high-speed train between Tashkent and Andijan in September. As a result, travel time between the two cities has been reduced from six hours to four.
