Chinese technologies accelerate development of Namangan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Namangan region is expanding cooperation with China, using Chinese technologies to develop industry, agriculture and infrastructure, regional governor Shavkat Abdurazakov said in an interview with Xinhua.

According to the regional governor, more than 70 joint projects with Chinese partners are currently being implemented. They cover infrastructure, construction materials production, green energy and other key areas.

Agriculture and the textile industry remain among the main sectors of the regional economy. Namangan, the administrative center of the region known as the “city of flowers,” is among Uzbekistan’s largest exporters of finished textile products.

Abdurazakov noted that further development of the agro-industrial complex and expanded use of modern agricultural technologies are among the region’s priorities.

In recent years, cotton-growing technologies, improved seeds and specialized fertilizers supplied from China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region have become widely used in the region. According to the governor, their application has significantly increased cotton yields per hectare.

“This has become a major breakthrough in our agricultural sector,” Abdurazakov said.

At the same time, local farmers are increasing the areas used to grow lavender and other high-margin aromatic crops. This is accompanied by the development of production chains in pharmaceuticals, perfumery and ecotourism.

Significant results have also been achieved in the energy sector. The first 500 MW unit of a solar power plant built by a Chinese company in Namangan region was connected to the power grid in December 2024. According to Abdurazakov, implementation of the project significantly reduced the electricity shortage in the region’s industrial zones.

Another area of cooperation is transport infrastructure. The governor emphasized the strategic location of Namangan region, which connects Tashkent with the densely populated Fergana Valley, and noted the region’s active participation in initiatives to strengthen regional transport connectivity.

In particular, this includes the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project. According to Abdurazakov, the new railway line will expand the geographic reach of Namangan’s exports and strengthen its integration into the regional market of the Fergana Valley.

“The railway will not only expand the geographic reach of Namangan’s exports, but will also contribute to its integration into the broader regional market of the Fergana Valley,” he said.

The governor also highlighted the contribution of Chinese enterprises to the region’s development. According to him, they bring modern technologies and expertise while creating jobs for the local population.

Namangan region expects further expansion of cooperation with Chinese companies and government authorities.

According to Abdurazakov, the sides intend to jointly make use of opportunities to develop the region and ensure mutual benefit.
