Uzbekistan’s State Security Service prevents $240,000 smuggling

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s State Security Service, together with customs authorities, prevented an attempt to illegally export US$240,000 from the country in Tashkent region.

Meanwhile, an attempt to put counterfeit US$8,400 into circulation was prevented in Tashkent.

According to the State Security Service, two citizens of Kazakhstan, born in 2005 and 2009, were searched at the Navoi border customs post in Tashkent district.

During the inspection, it was found that one of them had US$160,000 taped to his lower legs, while the second was carrying US$80,000 in the same manner. The men were reportedly attempting to secretly take the currency into a neighboring country.

In a separate case, officers of the State Security Service department for Tashkent prevented an attempt to put counterfeit foreign currency into circulation.

According to the agency, a resident of Kibray district, born in 1999, entered into an agreement with a resident of Yunusabad district, born in 1997. Together, they attempted to sell counterfeit US$8,400, which was found to have been brought from Türkiye.

Seeking to make a profit, the suspects sold the counterfeit banknotes to a conditional buyer for US$3,800 in genuine currency. Both were detained with material evidence.

Criminal cases have been opened in both incidents. Investigative proceedings are currently underway.
