Washington Mayor Proclaims 1 September Uzbek Independence Day

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has signed an official proclamation declaring 1 September 2026 as Uzbekistan Independence Day in the US capital, according to UzDaily.uz.

The document marks the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's state independence. The proclamation highlights the country's cultural heritage and achievements, as well as the friendship, cooperation, and partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States. It also notes shared goals that unite the peoples of both nations.

The Uzbek side expressed gratitude to Bowser for recognizing Uzbekistan's Independence Day, noting in a statement that the decision represents a strong expression of friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect between Uzbekistan and the United States, particularly with the city of Washington. Uzbek officials also voiced hope for the further strengthening of bilateral ties and expanded cooperation with the US capital.
