Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — An escalator at the interchange between Pakhtakor and Alisher Navoi metro stations in Tashkent was temporarily stopped after a passenger’s shoelace became caught in its mechanism, Tashkent Metro said in response to reports of an equipment malfunction circulating on social media.

According to the company, the incident occurred on 26 October at around 18:32. The shoelace became trapped in the escalator mechanism, prompting an immediate shutdown as a safety precaution.

Once the situation was brought under control and the necessary measures had been taken, the escalator resumed operation. The entire process took approximately two minutes.

Tashkent Metro urged passengers to follow escalator safety rules, remain attentive while travelling and ensure that shoelaces and clothing do not become caught in moving mechanisms.
