Shavkat Mirziyoyev honored with Georgia's highest award
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Within the framework of his state visit to Georgia, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, was decorated with the country's highest state award for foreign citizens — the Order of the Golden Fleece.
The award ceremony took place in Tbilisi, where Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili presented the order to the Uzbek head of state. The honor was conferred in recognition of Mirziyoyev's outstanding contribution to the development and strengthening of multifaceted relations between Uzbekistan and Georgia.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed his gratitude to Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, and Parliament Chairman Shalva Papuashvili for the high distinction, while wishing peace, welfare, and prosperity to the people of Georgia.
Established in 1998, the Order of the Golden Fleece is one of Georgia's highest state awards. It is bestowed upon individuals who have made significant contributions to developing relations with foreign states and international organizations, as well as promoting Georgian culture, science, and art.
The name of the award traces back to the ancient Greek myth of the Golden Fleece and Colchis — a historical region located within the territory of modern Georgia.
According to the Georgian side, notable recipients of the Order of the Golden Fleece over the years include Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, King Abdullah II of Jordan, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev, among other statesmen.
During the visit, the President of Uzbekistan also left a commemorative signature and message in the Book of Honored Guests at the Orbeliani Palace.
