Mirziyoyev, Aliyev review New Tashkent development project
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev visited the Directorate for the Construction of New Tashkent, where they reviewed the city’s master plan and progress on the project, the Uzbek presidential press service said.
Aliyev was also briefed on the city’s transport and engineering infrastructure and plans for its further development.
New Tashkent is being built on an area of 20,000 hectares and is ultimately designed to accommodate 2 million people. Up to 2034, the project envisages the construction of 200,000 apartments.
The first phase covers 6,000 hectares. Modern residential complexes, social and business facilities, and educational and cultural institutions are being built in the area.
The campuses of New Uzbekistan University, the Nizami National Pedagogical University of Uzbekistan and other higher education institutions are among the facilities under construction in New Tashkent.
The city is being designed and built with a focus on modern urban planning principles, the “green city” concept and energy efficiency. Engineering utilities are planned to be located underground, while energy-saving technologies are to be used in the infrastructure.
The project also provides for extensive green areas and public spaces.
Particular attention is being paid to transport infrastructure. New bridges and a metro line, as well as pedestrian and cycling paths, are planned to be built in the city. These facilities are intended to connect New Tashkent with the existing part of the capital.
Government institutions, research and cultural centers, hotels, service facilities and business complexes will also be located in the new city. Domestic and foreign investors are being invited to participate in the project.
During the visit, Aliyev was shown a model of New Tashkent and briefed on major facilities planned as part of the project.
