Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan sign Treaty of Eternal Friendship
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a Treaty of Eternal Friendship in Tashkent on 23 August following high-level talks, the Uzbek presidential press service said.
As part of the signing ceremony, the two heads of state also signed the decision of the third session of the Supreme Intergovernmental Council.
In the presence of the presidents, the sides signed a package of bilateral documents covering social affairs, culture, tourism, trade, investment, foreign policy, justice and other areas of cooperation.
The two countries signed an agreement on cooperation in pension provision, as well as agreements on cooperation in culture and tourism.
Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan also adopted a program aimed at increasing bilateral trade turnover to US$1 billion by 2030. In addition, they signed a practical action plan to implement agreements reached in investment and trade.
The foreign ministries of the two countries agreed on a cooperation program for 2027–2028. A cooperation program for the same period was also approved between the justice ministries of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
In a separate document, the sides formalized their intention to exchange experience and develop cooperation in the field of cynology.
The ceremony also included the signing of protocols establishing sister-city relations between Urgench and Khankendi, Bukhara and Lachin, and Urgench and Nakhchivan.
The signed documents formalize agreements reached during the leaders’ talks and the third session of the Supreme Intergovernmental Council.
