Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Experts from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Uzbekistan's National Statistics Committee are holding discussions to improve the country's agricultural statistics system, according to the National Statistics Committee.

The visit by FAO experts runs from 17 August 2026 to 21 August 2026, with the main meeting taking place on 18 August 2026. On 17 August 2026, FAO expert Mariana Toteva and the organization's regional statistician for Europe and Central Asia, Rasmiya Aliyeva, visited the committee.

The primary objective of the delegation's visit is to examine and compare existing data and methodologies in agricultural statistics, with particular attention given to developing integrated and modular approaches to annual agricultural reporting.

During the meeting on 18 August 2026, which was attended by the Chairman of the National Statistics Committee, B. Khamraev, central office staff, and FAO experts, participants discussed comparing data obtained through agricultural censuses with findings from regular statistical observations. The sides examined discrepancies between these sources and analyzed the factors behind them.

The discussions also focused on harmonizing concepts, definitions, classifications, and methodologies used in agricultural statistics, as well as measures to ensure data consistency, accuracy, and continuity.

Special attention was given to applying international experience and FAO methodological approaches to align data within Uzbekistan's national statistical practices. Both sides also discussed further steps in this direction ahead of the conclusion of the experts' visit on 21 August 2026.
