Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Bukhara city administration has commented on a decision to regulate the movement of vehicles not intended for passenger transport in the city’s historic centre. The move followed a video appeal published on social media by the “GOLF CAR BUKHARA” page.
The city administration said the restrictions are primarily related to the need to ensure traffic safety and preserve Bukhara’s historical and cultural heritage.
According to the hokimiyat, the decision was made based on proposals and conclusions from relevant organisations. The administration stressed that it was not aimed at restricting the activities of individual citizens or entrepreneurs, but at maintaining order and safety and ensuring compliance with legislation in the historic part of the city.
Following the publication of the appeal, the hokimiyat held an open meeting with more than 30 citizens who expressed dissatisfaction with the decision.
Administration representatives heard their concerns and examined the participants’ socio-economic circumstances, as well as the problems related to the restrictions.
Several measures were identified following the discussion. Appropriate road signs are planned to be installed in the historic part of the city. Special zones for bicycles and electric scooters are also expected to be organised in other locations.
In addition, citizens who were previously engaged in the relevant activity were offered the opportunity to consider alternative employment options.
The hokimiyat said that in implementing these measures, it intends to take into account both the legitimate interests of citizens, including their employment and welfare, and the need to preserve Bukhara’s historic appearance, ensure public safety and create comfortable conditions for local residents and tourists.
The city administration said further work on the issue would continue through dialogue and cooperation with citizens.
