Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis approved at a plenary session a law introducing amendments and an addition to several legislative acts concerning the use and protection of water resources.
The document was prepared as part of ongoing reforms in water resource management, including monitoring, state accounting and reporting on water use, as well as ensuring the safety of water management facilities.
One of the areas covered by the amendments is the establishment of liability for officials directly responsible for maintaining state water records, operating water management facilities and equipment, complying with procedures for discharging wastewater and creating the necessary conditions for water consumers.
Amendments are being made to the Code of Administrative Responsibility and the Water Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. They provide for stronger liability for violations of state water accounting rules, as well as procedures governing the use of water management facilities, structures and sewerage networks.
The amendments also provide for the registration of water-use agreements in a dedicated information system in automated electronic form.
According to senators, implementation of the provisions set out in the law will contribute to more efficient use of water resources, preventing violations and strengthening their protection.
Following consideration, the law was approved by the senators.
