Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Senate Chairperson of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva met with Belen Sanz Luque, UN Women Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, to discuss the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and UN Women.
The opening of the UN Women office in Uzbekistan was described as an important step in developing international cooperation on gender equality.
The meeting also addressed cooperation under a joint programme launched in April 2026 with the participation of UN Women, UNFPA and UNICEF. The programme is aimed at expanding women’s economic opportunities.
Increasing women’s economic activity and expanding their participation in digital markets, green jobs and sustainable industries were identified among the priorities. The importance of UN Women’s support for holding the next forum in Uzbekistan in 2028 was also noted.
The sides discussed cooperation within the framework of the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, the outcomes of the Second Asian Women’s Forum held in Bukhara in May 2026, and the promotion of initiatives put forward during the forum.
Particular attention was paid to cooperation within the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asian Countries. The participants discussed the possibility of holding a regional conference to promote the global Women, Peace and Security agenda.
The sides also reviewed preparations for the Gender Profile of Uzbekistan. The importance of reflecting ongoing reforms and achieved results in ensuring gender equality in the document was emphasized.
