Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan Tourism Committee Chairman Abdulaziz Akkulov met with Türkiye’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy to discuss further development of cooperation in tourism.
The talks highlighted the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Türkiye and the attention paid by the two countries’ presidents to tourism development and the expansion of humanitarian exchanges.
The sides discussed opportunities for sharing experience and implementing joint projects. In particular, they considered applying Türkiye’s experience in tourism management, tourism destination development, hotel infrastructure and digital technologies in Uzbekistan.
Particular attention was given to developing direct ties between tour operators from the two countries and holding business-to-business (B2B) meetings.
In tourism infrastructure, the sides discussed constructing modern hotel complexes in Uzbekistan’s regions with the participation of Turkish investors, as well as attracting international Turkish hotel brands.
They also considered further strengthening cooperation with Turkish Airlines and other Turkish airlines, including expanding the geography and capacity of air links between the two countries.
To train tourism specialists, develop scientific and practical cooperation and prepare master plans, the Uzbek side proposed establishing cooperation between Cappadocia University and the Project Office for Tourism Infrastructure Development under Uzbekistan’s Tourism Committee. The Turkish side supported the initiative.
The sides also discussed promoting Uzbekistan’s tourism potential in the Turkish market.
They proposed developing cooperation between Türkiye’s state broadcaster TRT, the Tourism Promotion and Development Agency of Türkiye (TGA) and relevant Uzbek organizations, as well as organizing media and press tours and using digital platforms, bloggers and media outlets.
Among the proposals was transforming preserved “Uzbek caravanserais” in Türkiye into tourism and cultural centers of Uzbekistan to promote the country’s tourism potential.
The sides also discussed joint media projects for Turkish audiences, including in pilgrimage tourism, promotion of the heritage of Imam Bukhari and the activities of the Center of Islamic Civilization, as well as through films and television series.
Joint tourism and education projects with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) were also discussed, including the possibility of attracting grant funding.
The sides also reviewed activities planned for the 31st Tashkent International Tourism Fair “Tourism on the Silk Road,” which will be held in Tashkent on 25–27 November 2026.
In particular, the Uzbek side proposed holding another meeting of the Joint Commission on Tourism “Uzbekistan-Türkiye” during the fair, inviting representatives of Türkiye’s tourism industry to participate with a national stand, and ensuring Türkiye’s participation as a partner country in the “Invest Forum” event.
The initiatives are aimed at increasing tourist flows between Uzbekistan and Türkiye, expanding investment cooperation, developing air connectivity and exchanging experience and innovative approaches in tourism.
