Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has assumed the chairmanship of the Tourism Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) for 2026–2027, following a meeting of the council in Dushanbe.
An Uzbek delegation led by Sanjar Tajiev, Deputy Chairman of the Tourism Committee, took part in the meeting, which brought together representatives of government agencies responsible for tourism development in Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the CIS Executive Committee and the Secretariat of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
Participants reviewed tourism trends and prospective projects, implementation of the Strategy for the Development of Cooperation among CIS Member States in Tourism for 2021–2030, tourism statistics and forecasting, personnel training and further expansion of cooperation.
Particular attention was paid to exchanging statistical and analytical data on mutual tourist flows. The participants discussed information cooperation between the authorized bodies of CIS countries and the integration of information resources of national digital platforms.
The meeting also reviewed the activities of the International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage “Silk Road” in Samarkand as the CIS basic organization in the field of tourism.
Tajiev presented information on the university’s current activities, international cooperation, educational and research programs, as well as cooperation among specialized higher education institutions in CIS countries.
Following the meeting, the chairmanship of the CIS Tourism Council for 2026–2027 was transferred to Uzbekistan in accordance with the rotation principle. Abdulaziz Akkulov, Chairman of the Tourism Committee, was appointed Chairman of the Council.
The participants also decided to hold the council’s next meeting in Uzbekistan in 2027.
During its chairmanship, Uzbekistan plans to focus on developing cross-border tourism, improving the exchange of tourism statistics and analytical data, training qualified personnel, strengthening cooperation among educational institutions and creating joint tourism routes.
The work in these areas is expected to contribute to expanding practical cooperation in tourism among CIS countries and promoting new joint initiatives.
