Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Representatives of government agencies and business communities from Uzbekistan and Latvia met in Tashkent on 8 October for a bilateral business forum aimed at identifying new trade, economic and investment opportunities. The event was held as part of a Latvian delegation’s visit to Uzbekistan, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan said.

The forum sought to expand direct business contacts between entrepreneurs from the two countries and identify new areas for trade and economic cooperation and investment.

Participants included Alisher Shaikhov and Jamil Maksudi, advisers to the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan; Girts Jaunzems, Latvia’s ambassador to Uzbekistan; and Alexander Vidyakin, chairman of the board of the Baltic-Central Asia Economic Development Association.

The Latvian delegation included executives from companies operating in transport and logistics, agriculture, finance and investment.

During the forum, Latvian businesses presented their companies, products and services, as well as projects that could be of interest for implementation in Uzbekistan. The Uzbek side outlined proposals for promising areas of cooperation.

Particular attention was given to establishing direct business contacts between companies. Participants had the opportunity to hold bilateral business-to-business (B2B) talks with Latvian entrepreneurs and discuss potential new partners, joint projects and investment initiatives.

Following the forum, the sides identified areas for further cooperation between business representatives from Uzbekistan and Latvia.
