Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Laziz Kudratov held talks with Japanese Prime Minister’s Special Adviser Uno Yoshimasa on 5 October. The sides discussed further development of strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Particular attention was paid to implementing the agreements reached during the high-level visit in December 2025. The sides also considered prospects for expanding industrial cooperation and organising production of high-value-added goods.

In 2025, trade between Uzbekistan and Japan amounted to about US$400 million. Since the beginning of 2026, bilateral trade has increased by 11% to US$228.8 million.

The portfolio of joint projects with Japanese partners has exceeded US$12 billion. There are currently 144 enterprises with Japanese capital operating in Uzbekistan.

A separate part of the talks focused on implementing major projects in the energy, transport and infrastructure sectors.

The Japanese side also proposed expanding cooperation within the framework of the concept of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”

The initiative provides for strengthening resilience, supporting economic development and expanding regional connectivity.
