Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The business census will provide a more accurate basis for Uzbekistan’s business statistics and improve the quality of subsequent statistical surveys, international expert Hakan Demirbuken said.
According to him, reliable statistical data requires determining the actual types of economic activity carried out by each enterprise. In particular, it is important to establish whether a company operates in construction, industry or manufacturing, and whether it conducts several areas of activity simultaneously.
The same approach is needed when collecting information on individual entrepreneurs and self-employed people. The census will identify their types of activity, places of work and other characteristics of their economic operations.
Demirbuken noted that incomplete coverage of economic entities makes it difficult to accurately calculate national income, gross domestic product and other key economic indicators.
According to the expert, the main objective of the business census is to improve the quality of business statistics. It should reflect, in particular, the number of people employed in various sectors, production and trade volumes, as well as the contribution of different types of economic activity to GDP formation.
Business censuses are conducted periodically in many countries around the world.
For Uzbekistan, the upcoming exercise is particularly important as it will be the first census of business entities since the country gained independence.
As Demirbuken noted, the census results will help establish a more reliable foundation for business statistics and create a basis for improving the quality of subsequent statistical surveys.
