Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Work is underway to create a pond on a 50-sotix site in the buffer zone of Tashkent Botanical Garden.
The garden’s scientific collection of trees and shrubs is not being affected, the Information Service of the Academy of Sciences said.
The agency said the site where the pond is being created is not part of the Botanical Garden’s collection areas. It is mainly covered by naturally occurring plants, including blackberries, reeds and other wild species.
According to the Academy of Sciences, there are no trees or shrubs belonging to the Botanical Garden’s scientific collection at the site where the work is being carried out.
The work is being conducted jointly with environmental specialists. The organization of the project takes into account environmental requirements, while measures are being taken to prevent damage to existing greenery.
The main purpose of creating the pond is to develop and study an ecosystem of algae, as well as trees and shrubs growing near water bodies. Based on the findings, relevant recommendations are planned to be developed.
In addition to its scientific purpose, the new pond is expected to help maintain a stable microclimate within the Botanical Garden.
The Information Service of the Academy of Sciences also urged media representatives and social media users to rely on reliable and official sources when disseminating information and refrain from spreading unverified reports.
