Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and the World Bank discussed priority areas of cooperation in the heating sector, including implementation of a new sustainable heating program and modernization of existing infrastructure, the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Communal Services and Welfare of Uzbekistan said.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister Ozoda Djuraeva. The sides discussed opportunities to secure support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) for implementation of the sustainable heating program in Uzbekistan.
The talks also covered the government’s goals and priorities in the heating sector and the alignment of the new program with ongoing national reforms in the country.
Particular attention was paid to implementation of the District Heating Energy Efficiency Project (DHEEP). The participants reviewed its progress, key results achieved, completion timelines and tasks to be carried out at the next stage.
The sides exchanged views on applying a results-based financing mechanism under the new program, its initial scope and implementation mechanisms.
The main goal of the program is to provide the population with high-quality and uninterrupted heating services, modernize existing infrastructure and improve the quality of relevant services through more efficient use of energy resources.
Following the meeting, the sides agreed to continue cooperation on the consistent implementation of heating sector reforms, improving energy efficiency and effectively carrying out the planned tasks.
