Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekneftegaz JSC has acquired 800,000 international I-REC(E) renewable energy certificates, confirming that the electricity consumed by the company originated from renewable energy sources, the Uzbekneftegaz press service said.
The certificates are equivalent to the generation of 800 million kWh of electricity from renewable sources in Uzbekistan.
According to the company, the use of I-REC(E) certificates makes it possible to officially verify the origin of consumed electricity and link the company's energy consumption to renewable sources.
As part of the accounting of the certificates, greenhouse gas emissions were reduced by an amount equivalent to 580,800 tonnes of CO₂.
Uzbekneftegaz said I-REC(E) certificates are not only a tool for confirming environmental performance but also make it possible to document the origin of consumed electricity.
The company will be able to use the verified energy consumption data when providing international investors, foreign partners and rating agencies with information on its environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) performance.
The company considers the acquisition of the certificates another practical step toward implementing green economy principles, increasing environmental responsibility and adapting its operations to international sustainable development requirements.
