Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Maria Timofeeva has advanced to the second round of the WTA 1000 China Open in Beijing.

In the first round, Timofeeva faced Czech player Darya Vidmanova, ranked 88th in the world. The Uzbekistan representative won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to progress to the second round.

Timofeeva will face Japan’s Naomi Osaka in her next match. Osaka is the tournament’s No. 12 seed. The Japanese player is a four-time Grand Slam champion and has previously held the world No. 1 ranking. In 2019, Osaka won the China Open.

Uzbekistan is also represented at the Beijing tournament by Camilla Rakhimova and Polina Kudermetova.
