Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA) has announced the national team squad for the upcoming training camp, which will begin on 21 September under head coach Fabio Cannavaro.
As part of the camp, Uzbekistan will play three international friendly matches: against Iran on 24 September, against Syria on 1 October and against South Korea on 6 October.
The announced list includes both players from domestic championship clubs and legionnaires playing abroad. Among the overseas players are Manchester City defender Abdukodir Khusanov, Basaksehir forward Eldor Shomurodov, Basaksehir midfielder Abbos Fayzullaev, Lugano goalkeeper Bekhruzjon Karimov, Rubin Kazan defender Jahongir Urozov, Makhachkala Dynamo defender Makhmudjon Makhamadjonov, Sabah (Azerbaijan) midfielder Umarali Rakhmonaliev, Baniyas (UAE) defender Azizjon Ganiev, Tractor (Iran) midfielder Odiljon Khamrobekov and Antwerp (Belgium) forward Mukhammadali Urinboyev.
Pakhtakor is the most widely represented club in the squad, with Vladimir Nazarov, Mukhammadrasul Abdumajidov, Khojiakbar Alijonov, Sherzod Nasrullayev, Dostonbek Khamdamov and Akmal Mozgovoy, along with players from Nasaf and Navbahor.
UFA clarified that five players called up to the national team are simultaneously part of Uzbekistan's Olympic team, which is currently competing at the Asian Games in Japan, and will therefore not take part in this camp.
