Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Sardor Tirkashev, a citizen of Uzbekistan, was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers on 7 October in Chillicothe, Ohio.
The White House included him among detained undocumented migrants it described as some of the “most dangerous criminals in the United States”, Slavic Sacramento reported.
According to the publication, Tirkashev had previously been convicted of two counts of aggravated assault and robbery.
The White House said President Donald Trump’s administration had tightened border controls and was detaining migrants with criminal records.
“After years of the Biden administration allowing illegal aliens with criminal records to flood into the United States, the Trump administration has closed the border and removed the most dangerous criminals from the streets,” the statement said.
The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported detentions of migrants in Ohio who had previously been charged with or convicted of various offences.
The offences cited by the department included sexual crimes, strangulation, driving under the influence and cocaine trafficking.
The department said it intended to continue detaining and deporting migrants with criminal records.
Slavic Sacramento said it had found records of Tirkashev’s detention in Ohio law enforcement databases but had been unable to obtain confirmation directly from ICE.
