Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Tashkent plans to establish dedicated public transport lanes on four streets, covering a total of 17.9 km.

The project also includes road surface repairs, the press service of the Tashkent city administration reported.

The work is planned for Mukimi Street, which stretches 4.6 km through the Yashnabad and Chilanzar districts, as well as Karatash and Kukcha Darvoza streets in the Shaykhantakhur district.

A 2.8 km section is planned on Parkent Street, while Mirzo Ulugbek Avenue will have a 6.3 km section. Both are located in the Mirzo Ulugbek district.

The city mayor has already signed the decision to implement the project. Specialists previously surveyed more than 150 km of roads used by public transport routes. Following the assessment, they recommended prioritising work on nearly 18 km.

A budget is currently being prepared for the development of design documentation. These works are preliminarily estimated to cost around 6.5 billion soums. Funding is expected to come from the Tashkent City Development Fund.

Toshkent Invest Kompaniyasi is being considered as the project client, while designers and contractors are expected to be selected through competitive tenders.

Before construction begins, specialists will inspect engineering infrastructure and utility networks. The design documentation must also provide for safe pedestrian routes, bus stop facilities, road signs and lighting.

The road surface is planned to use stone mastic asphalt made with polymer-modified bitumen and durable crushed stone.

The city administration said dedicated bus lanes should increase bus speeds and make journeys more comfortable.

The need to develop public transport is also linked to the growing number of cars in the capital. Tashkent’s vehicle fleet increases by around 30,000 cars each year.
