Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with Speaker of the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania Mussa Azan Zungu during the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is being held in Tanzania.

The sides discussed prospects for developing political and inter-parliamentary ties between Uzbekistan and Tanzania, as well as expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation.

During the meeting, Tanzila Narbayeva briefed the Tanzanian side on reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan. In particular, the discussions covered measures aimed at ensuring socio-economic development, improving the investment climate and raising the population’s welfare.

The parties also discussed attracting foreign investment, increasing private-sector activity and further developing the economy.

Particular attention was paid to the draft Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Tanzania.

The Speaker of Tanzania’s National Assembly expressed readiness to actively support efforts to accelerate the adoption of the document. Once adopted, it will provide a legal and political foundation for further developing inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries.

The sides also emphasized the importance of consistently developing contacts between the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Tanzania.

To strengthen inter-parliamentary dialogue institutionally, the parties agreed to establish cooperation groups in the parliaments of the two countries.
