Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A delegation from Uzbekistan’s Andijan Region, led by regional governor Shukhratbek Abdurakhmonov, has visited Belarus’s Vitebsk Region.

During the working visit, the sides are discussing prospects for cooperation in education, agriculture and joint investment projects.

The programme began with the opening of a memorial sign honouring Uzbek soldiers who died during the liberation of Vitebsk.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Andijan delegation, Alexander Rogozhnik, chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, and Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Belarus.

Participants honoured the fallen and laid flowers at the memorial. It commemorates more than 17,900 soldiers, including over 700 people born in Uzbekistan. Around 50 of them came from Andijan Region.

Cooperation in education

As part of the visit, the delegation toured Vitebsk State University, where it learned about the organisation of academic activities, research and the university’s capabilities.

The talks covered opportunities to expand cooperation between educational institutions in the two regions, exchange experience to improve the quality of education, and promote academic mobility for lecturers and students. The sides also discussed joint educational programmes and research projects.

Shukhratbek Abdurakhmonov met with people from Andijan Region who are studying at Vitebsk State University, undertaking internships or pursuing professional development in Belarus. He asked about their study and living conditions, the challenges they face and their suggestions.

Particular attention was paid to supporting students and creating conditions for developing their professional skills.

Joint agricultural projects

Agricultural cooperation was another topic of the talks. Andijan Mayak LLC has been established in the Ushachy district of Vitebsk Region and plans to develop cattle farming with the participation of investors from Uzbekistan.

Alexander Rogozhnik and Shukhratbek Abdurakhmonov visited the district and discussed prospects for implementing the initiative. The project is expected to help combine the agricultural potential of the two regions, facilitate the exchange of experience and expand investment cooperation.
