Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Georgia have agreed to develop a joint roadmap for interparliamentary cooperation for 2027–2028, aimed at strengthening parliamentary ties and supporting the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The agreement was reached at a meeting between Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva and Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili on the sidelines of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The sides discussed further development of interparliamentary cooperation, as well as ways to strengthen strategic partnership and expand interaction between the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Georgia.
The meeting noted that the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries during the state visit of Uzbekistan’s head of state to Georgia in July 2026 had opened new opportunities for developing bilateral cooperation.
To take interparliamentary ties to a new level, the participants stressed the need to intensify contacts between relevant parliamentary committees and interparliamentary cooperation groups.
They also emphasized the importance of involving these structures more broadly in discussions on specific areas of bilateral cooperation.
The joint roadmap for 2027–2028 is expected to set out specific measures in priority areas of interaction and contribute to the consistent development of parliamentary dialogue in support of the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Georgia.
The sides also exchanged views on prospects for expanding cooperation in trade and the economy, transport connectivity, investment and digitalization.
They further emphasized the importance of developing educational, tourism, cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries.
