Lawmakers approve increase in external loan limit and expenditure for 2024

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) —  At a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on 3 December, lawmakers approved amendments to the 2024 state budget law in three readings.

The amendments provide for an increase in the limit for external loans raised under government guarantees from the previously set level of US$5 billion to US$7.3 billion. This decision was made without discussion, as it exceeded the originally planned limits.

Additionally, expenditures for ministries and departments were increased by 9.98 trillion soums (equivalent to US$775.8 million), which was also approved without debate.

In comparison, in 2023, the external loan limit was raised from US$4.5 billion to US$5.5 billion.

The maximum volume of government securities that can be issued on the domestic market was also increased — from 25 trillion soums to 30 trillion soums.
