Uzbek Consulate Denies Reports of Woman Missing in Türkiye

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbek citizen M.B., whom Turkish media reported as missing after a wedding ceremony with gold and jewelry, is in Milas district of Muğla province and voluntarily appeared at a local police station, the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul said in an official statement.

In recent days, reports about the case appeared in Turkish media, including Sözcü, Yeni Şafak, Haberler and Karar, as well as on social media. Some reports claimed that the woman disappeared after the wedding, taking a significant amount of gold and jewelry with her.

According to the consulate, M.B. did not go into hiding and is in the Milas area. She voluntarily went to the police and gave a statement in the case.

The woman denied the allegations against her. According to her account, she and her mother handed the gold jewelry received as wedding gifts to her father-in-law. M.B. said her father-in-law later wrote in messages that he had sold the items to repay a loan and other debts.

M.B. also said she had provided Turkish law enforcement authorities with correspondence and video footage documenting the transfer of the gold items.

Turkish authorities are currently continuing their investigation into the case amid competing claims by the parties involved.

The Consulate General of Uzbekistan urged people to refrain from drawing one-sided conclusions and spreading unverified information until the investigation is completed.

The diplomatic mission continues to monitor the situation and, if necessary, will provide the citizen with consular and legal assistance in accordance with established procedures.
