Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan is expanding specialised medical care for children with cancer, blood disorders and immune system diseases, with a target of raising the five-year survival rate among young patients to at least 60% by 2030.

Key priorities include early disease detection, the introduction of modern treatment methods and improvements in long-term survival. These objectives are set out in Presidential Resolution No. PP-186, dated 19 May 2025.

A dedicated paediatric oncology and haematology service began to take shape following the adoption of a presidential resolution in 2021, when these specialties were separated from the system providing medical care to adults.

The Scientific and Practical Medical Centre for Paediatric Oncology, Haematology and Immunology in Tashkent is strengthening cooperation with regional medical institutions. This is intended to facilitate earlier diagnosis, ensure that children are referred to specialised centres in a timely manner and maintain continuity of treatment.

Since 1 July 2024, patients who began treatment for cancer, haematological disorders or immune system diseases before reaching adulthood have been eligible to continue receiving free treatment at designated medical institutions until the age of 21, inclusive.

The centre is also upgrading its technical facilities and expanding inpatient treatment capacity. Modern surgical techniques, molecular genetic testing and immunohistochemical diagnostics are being introduced into clinical practice.

In the first half of 2025, the centre's specialists performed 392 surgical operations, including 90 classified as high-technology procedures.

Other priorities include developing haematopoietic stem cell transplantation, expanding the use of modern therapies and applying international experience in the treatment of children.

The measures are intended to improve access to specialised care, expand the use of advanced medical technologies and enhance the quality of life of children with serious illnesses.
