Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan Airports is installing automated ambient air quality monitoring stations near airports across Uzbekistan. Equipment has already been installed in Samarkand and Ferghana, with similar stations planned for other airports in the country.
The station in Ferghana was installed on 15 October, while installation and calibration of the equipment in Samarkand were completed on 9 October.
The stations are located in airport sanitary protection zones and are designed to monitor ambient air quality around the clock. They measure concentrations of nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide, ozone, ammonia and hydrogen sulphide, as well as fine particulate matter PM2.5 and PM10.
The system also records air temperature and humidity, atmospheric pressure, and wind speed and direction. The data are automatically transmitted to the Unified Geoinformation Database of the environmental monitoring system. This will make it possible to track changes in air quality and use measurement results to assess environmental conditions and determine necessary measures.
The project is being implemented jointly with Malkam Environmental Technologies under Presidential Decree No. 81 on the transformation of the environmental sector and Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 783, which aims to reduce the harmful environmental impact of industrial enterprises.
The installation of the stations is part of Uzbekistan Airports’ efforts to strengthen environmental monitoring and reduce the impact of airport operations on the environment.
