Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Ferghana Region Governor Khayrullo Bozorov met with Ulsan Mayor Kim Sang-wook during a working visit to South Korea’s metropolitan city. The sides discussed further development of sister-city relations, implementation of specific projects and new areas of cooperation, the Ferghana regional administration reported.
Ulsan is one of the largest industrial and export centres in the Republic of Korea. The city’s economy is based primarily on automotive manufacturing, shipbuilding and petrochemicals. New areas of development include hydrogen energy, offshore wind power, future mobility and advanced energy technologies.
The meeting also highlighted Ulsan’s experience in combining industrial development with environmental sustainability.
In particular, the sides noted the restoration of the Taehwagang River, which had previously suffered severe industrial pollution and, following extensive restoration efforts, became one of the city’s important environmental spaces.
Relations between Ferghana and Ulsan began developing actively in 2025. In March that year, Ferghana signed a protocol of intentions on developing friendly ties and cooperation, while an agreement establishing sister-city relations was concluded in Ulsan in October.
Current cooperation includes training specialists in Ferghana based on Korean standards. Young people from the region are also working at shipbuilding enterprises in Ulsan, where they gain exposure to modern technologies, production practices and industrial standards.
The sides discussed bringing Ulsan’s industrial experience and technologies to Ferghana Region, developing production cooperation and implementing joint projects in automotive manufacturing and future mobility, energy and green industries.
To strengthen cultural and humanitarian ties, the sides also proposed holding Ulsan Days in Ferghana.
“We view the documents signed between Ferghana and Ulsan not simply as diplomatic agreements, but as a solid foundation for long-term friendship and economic and technological partnership. Most importantly, the results of this friendship should be felt by our people, young people and entrepreneurs,” Khayrullo Bozorov said.
Following the meeting, the sides identified measures to further develop cooperation and agreed to draw up a corresponding roadmap.
