Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Representatives of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Digital Technologies took part in the 21st World Telecommunication and ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS-26), held in Geneva on 7–8 September, the Ministry of Digital Technologies reported.
The main theme of the symposium was the role of statistical data in shaping digital policy. Participants discussed the effective use of data in a rapidly changing digital environment, evidence-based approaches and new methods for measuring digital transformation.
The WTIS-26 programme covered digital inclusion, the use of new data sources, artificial intelligence in official statistics and assessment of the sustainability of digital transformation. Participants also examined the use of AI and mobile data in developing public policy and official statistics.
The event featured the results of the ITU Data Hackathon. Participants were presented with data-driven solutions for identifying the digital divide, detecting areas with hidden digital connectivity problems and ensuring universal and meaningful digital connectivity.
The symposium was held consecutively with the annual meetings of the Expert Group on Telecommunication/ICT Indicators (EGTI) and the Expert Group on ICT Household Indicators (EGH) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The EGH and EGTI meetings, held on 9–11 September, focused on improving ICT indicators, developing new indicators and work priorities for 2027.
Participants specifically considered measuring the use of artificial intelligence in households, indicators for broadband access through satellite systems, assessing the environmental impact of ICT, AI infrastructure, digital data visualization and the use of GIS tools.
WTIS is an international ITU event dedicated to measuring digital development, using statistical data in digital policymaking and improving ICT indicators.
