Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Gafurjon Mirzaev has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan and chairman of the Association of Mahallas of Uzbekistan, according to a presidential decree.

Following the appointment, Mirzaev was relieved of his position as adviser to the President of Uzbekistan on personnel matters.

His candidacy for the post of deputy head of government had previously been approved by deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

Before his new appointment, Mirzaev served as the President’s adviser on personnel matters. He succeeds Kahramon Kuronboev as chairman of the Association of Mahallas of Uzbekistan.

Mirzaev was born in 1964 in Ferghana Region. He graduated from the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute in 1990, the Tashkent State University of Economics through correspondence studies in 2000, and the Academy of State and Social Construction under the President of Uzbekistan in 2003.

Mirzaev began his career in the grain industry. At various stages, he worked at a grain processing plant in Baghdad district of Ferghana Region, where he later became deputy chairman. He also served as deputy hokim of Baghdad district responsible for construction, industry, transport and communications.

Mirzaev later headed divisions of Uzdonmakhsulot and the Ferghana Association of Grain Product Producers. From 2003 to 2016, he worked in the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan.

From 15 December 2016 to 24 November 2022, Mirzaev served as hokim of Syrdarya Region.

After that, from 24 November 2022, he worked as the President’s adviser on public service, dialogue with the population and coordination of local government bodies.

Since 25 August 2023, Mirzaev had served as the President’s adviser on personnel policy while also heading the Agency for the Development of Public Service under the President.
