Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Ferghana Region Governor Khayrullo Bozorov met with Lee Yong-hae, chairman of the Council of South Korea’s metropolitan city of Ulsan. The sides discussed strengthening regional cooperation through local representative bodies and establishing direct ties between their councils, the Ferghana regional administration reported.
Khayrullo Bozorov noted that the role of local Kenghashes in state and public administration has been steadily increasing as part of the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan.
In particular, he highlighted the separation of powers between local representative and executive authorities, strengthening the independence of Kenghashes and increasing their responsibility for addressing important issues related to regional development.
Particular attention was paid to exchanging experience between the Councils of Ferghana Region and Ulsan, as well as expanding interparliamentary and interregional dialogue.
The participants also discussed supporting cooperation in industry and investment, education, local governance and sustainable regional development.
The Ulsan Metropolitan City Council is a local representative body involved in discussing key issues of the city’s socio-economic development, adopting relevant decisions and representing residents’ interests in local governance processes.
Following the meeting, the sides expressed mutual interest in establishing regular dialogue and practical cooperation between the local representative bodies of Ferghana Region and Ulsan.
